When you need to play modern video files on older mobile phones or devices with low storage, the 3GP format is the most compatible choice. This tool uses transcoding technology to convert mainstream videos like MP4 and AVI into 3GP (Third Generation Partnership Project) format. This is a multimedia container format optimized for mobile devices, utilizing H.263/MPEG-4 video encoding and AMR-NB audio encoding to significantly reduce file size while maintaining basic image quality.
Will the converted 3GP video retain its original quality?
Not entirely. The 3GP format sacrifices some image quality in exchange for a much smaller file size. It is suitable for viewing on mobile phones but not recommended for large screens.
Q: Why can't my old phone play the converted 3GP file? A: Please check the 3GP specification version supported by your phone. Some early devices only support QCIF (176×144) resolution, which is the default compatible output resolution for this tool.
Please ensure a stable internet connection when converting long videos (over 10 minutes). The 3GP format is not suitable for saving video footage that requires post-production editing. Converted files are typically only one-third the size of the original file.
For presentation videos that need to be played on feature phones, we recommend using video editing software to crop them to QVGA (320×240) resolution before conversion for the best playback experience. Typical conversion example: 50MB MP4 (720p) → 15MB 3GP (QCIF).
